National Judges Convention 2017
BDSC again supported the National Judges Convention at Addington Manor, Bucks on 18 April hosted by Peter Storr, Sandy Phillips, Isobel Wessels and Laura Tomlinson. They assessed 8 horse and rider combinations from Novice to Grand Prix. Each rode part of a test judged by the three judges from different positions around the arena, just as would happen with a panel at a major competition. Then one of the judges worked with the rider to help improve the way of going and thus the marks.
It was apparent that the position of the judge does affect the marks given as each position enables the judge to evaluate a different aspect of the test and this was reflected in the judges’ comments on what they saw.
The riders included Holly Bates and Cambridge, Antonia Brown and Krack DE owned by Catherine Witt, Ashley Jenkins with Sam Forrest’s Grandio, Lara Butler with her own and Anne Hutton’s Amiek C, Olivia Towers with her own Mercian Calisso, Dan Greenwood with Juliet Leighton’s Chevalier O, Lara Butler with the Bechtolsheimers’ and Laura Tomlinson’s Unique and Alex Hardwick with her mother’s Donauwein.
Jo Graham and her team put together a day to remember with the theme of bringing together trainers, judges and riders – Together Everyone Achieves More.
